Cristobal Huet

Huet was traded to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a second round pick, reports the AP. This deal clouds the goaltending picture in Washington considerably, as Huet will now battle with Olaf Kolzig for starts. It's still unclear who will emerge as the winner, but our opinion is that Huet will probably come out of all this with slightly more value than the aging Kolzig. Brent Johnson meanwhile becomes absolutely worthless as he is now a third stringer. Over in Montreal, Carey Price takes over full-time reigns and is a must-start in almost all fantasy leagues. He'll be backed up by unproven Jaroslav Halak, which should make many Habs fans nervous.

Mike Smith

Smith was traded to the Lightning in the blockbuster that sent Brad Richards the other way, reports the AP. Smith immediately becomes the favorite for starts and should be picked up in any leagues in which he is still available. Karri Ramo will be relegated to backup duties while Johan Holmqvist, who was also part of the deal, heads to Dallas to serve as Marty Turco's backup. Bump up Smith's value considerably while Ramo and Holmqvist are now virtually worthless. Turco's value will stay about the same.

Notes: Johan Hedberg starts tonight and Kari Lehtonen will get the call tomorrow .. In Washington, it looks like Brent Johnson tonight and Olaf Kolzig Saturday .. Dominik Hasek remains sidelined due to a hip injury and while Chris Osgood's play has regressed sharpy over the last few weeks, he's still the go-to guy in Hasek's absence ..

The following goalies have been predicted by a source:

Pascal Leclaire, Columbus Blue Jackets - Leclaire is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Red Wings, reports the Columbus Dispatch.

Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - Turco is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Ducks, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils - Brodeur is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Thrashers, reports the Bergen Record blog.

Johan Hedberg, Atlanta Thrashers - Lehtonen is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Devils, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution blog.

Brent Johnson, Washington Capitals - Johnson is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Panthers, reports the Washington Post.

Notes: Ilya Bryzgalov started last night but was pulled. While he didn't play all that well, coach Wayne Gretzky intends to start him again tonight .. Marty Turco was healthy enough to play on Saturday but the Stars gave him one more day off with Mike Smith playing extremely well ..

The following goalies have been predicted by a source:

Ilya Bryzgalov, Phoenix Coyotes - Bryzgalov is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Stars, reports the Arizona Republic.

Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - Turco is the probable starter for Monday's game against the Coyotes, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Notes: Stephen Valiquette gets the start this afternoon against the Flyers and Henrik Lundqvist will be back in net tomorrow .. Speculation persists that coach Marc Crawford has a serious man-crush on Dan Cloutier and is looking to play him today or tomorrow. If Cloutier plays even reasonably well, Crawford probably won't hesitate to reward him with starts .. Mathieu Garon has been stellar in each of the last two games for the Oilers and is a strong favorite to start not only tonight but for the majority of games over the remainder of the season .. Coach John Paddock continues to stick with his win-and-you-play policy which means it will be Ray Emery between the pipes for a second straight start .. Marty Turco will be active for tonight's game against the Blues, but coach Dave Tippett declined to name a starter. It should be noted that Mike Smith has started both games against the Blues this year and he is also coming off of a shutout .. Jose Theodore picked up right where he left before a back injury sidelined him. If he continues to play at this level, he will keep Peter Budaj on the bench. Most astute hockey analysts should already know this so if anyone is saying Budaj is still the #1 and/or will start tonight they should be ignored ..

The following goalies have been predicted by a source:

Dan Cloutier

The Kings have recalled goalie Dan Cloutier from the minors and they have also consequently waived goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin to make room on the roster. Not surprisingly, neither goalie was touched when passing through the league's waiver system but the Kings want to give Cloutier one more chance to show that he has the stuff to be a legitimate NHL goalie. He figures to get some action down the stretch and if he gets on nice streak would be trouble for Jason LaBarbera. Aubin had probably the least amount of fantasy value among all NHL goalies and with this news, his value falls even further if that is even possible.

Curtis Joseph

Joseph has decided to sign with the Flames, reports Sportsnet. While CuJo impressed many during the recent Spengler Cup, he was a shadow of his former self last year and has virtually no fantasy value while backing up Miikka Kiprusoff. Fantasy leaguers and poolies will want to stay away unless Kiprusoff goes down and even then, Joseph would still be too inconsistent to own in any leagues.

Notes: Martin Biron needs to have a strong game with Antero Niittymaki making a serious case for starts as of late .. Brent Johnson should be active today as Olaf Kolzig's backup and we anticipate that Johnson will see action in the next set of back-to-back games .. Niklas Backstrom is still the #1 goalie in Minnesota and is undefeated against the Coyotes, but it would be a shock if Josh Harding isn't in net today after an outstanding game on Friday .. Going out on a limb to predict Chris Mason back in net in the second half of back-to-back games .. Dwayne Roloson is still a serviceable goalie, but the Oilers have pretty much handed the reigns to Mathieu Garon.

The following goalies have been predicted by a source:

Martin Biron, Philadelphia Flyers - Biron is the probable starter for Sunday's game against the Capitals, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News.

Patrick Lalime, Chicago Blackhawks - Khabibulin is the probable starter for Sunday's game against the Predators, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Ilya Bryzgalov, Phoenix Coyotes - Bryzgalov is the probable starter for Sunday's game against the Wild, reports the Arizona Republic.

Dan Ellis

Dan Ellis has again revived his fantasy value. Coming off a shutout, Ellis followed it up with another solid performance in the Predator's 5-2 win tonight. If you are flying solo with Mason, I'd be very worried at this point. Ellis has vastly better numbers this year and has age on his side. We are close to seeing a shift in Music City.

Ty Conklin

Conklin was sensational in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Sabres on Tuesday, reports the AP. He stopped 36 of 37 shots to record his fifth consecutive victory. With Marc-Andre Fleury still sidelined, Conklin has taken grasp of the starting duties away from Dany Sabourin and doesn't appear interested in looking back. While Conklin is a better goalie that he has shown over the last couple of years, he will still have his ups and downs so we only recommend him for desperate fantasy owners.
