Sam Gagner
Submitted by J Status on February 24, 2008 - 4:17pm.The 2007 #6 overall pick now has 11 points over his current 8-game streak going into tonights game against Colorado. While most 18-year-olds are still playing in juniors, Gagner is charging up the list for rookie of the year candidates. With Horcoff out, he has proven that all he needed was the prime opportunity. He has outperformed even Hemsky during this steak, and his hockey sense is unmatched by most prospects his age. Though heavy on the assists, Sam looks to be a 90-point star in years to come.
Peter Forsberg
Submitted by Hockeyinformer on February 8, 2008 - 2:04am.The Canucks, Avalanche and Flyers remain in the Forsberg sweepstakes, reports the AP. The center's agent has already notified Detroit, San Jose, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Calgary and Dallas that Forsberg is not interested in joining those clubs. The Canucks are probably still in the running because Forsberg would like to play with longtime friend Markus Naslund and probably the Sedins as well while the Avs and Flyers are at the top of the list due to Forsberg already play there earlier in his career. It remains to be seen how much Forsberg has left in the tank but it's still worth stashing him at the end of your bench just in case things work out.
Sidney Crosby
Submitted by Hockeyinformer on February 8, 2008 - 1:51am.Crosby skated for the third time since suffering a high ankle sprain, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Before his fantasy owners get excited, Crosby is not ahead of schedule as this skating routine is just part of the rehab process. The young center is still not expected back for another month.
Sidney Crosby
Submitted by Hockeyinformer on January 23, 2008 - 2:32am.Crosby will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain, reports TSN. The Penguins were hopeful that he would only miss about 3-4 weeks, but a diagnosis on Tuesday morning confirmed a worse scenario. Bench the young superstar and hope that he is a quick healer but it will now be next to impossible for him to capture the Art Ross Trophy for a second straight year.
Peter Forsberg
Submitted by Hockeyinformer on January 23, 2008 - 2:28am.Forsberg said his right foot has responded well to strenuous skating but that it is still too early for him to address any notion of a return to the NHL. Forsberg said he wants to wait until he is 100% before making any decisions. If you have an extra spot or two at the end of your fantasy team's bench, consider stashing him away in case he comes back just in time for the playoffs.
Colin Long
Submitted by J Status on January 16, 2008 - 8:59pm.In case you didn't read this elsewhere already, Mr. Long is a breakout star this season. Leading the WHL in scoring, Colin has come a "Long" way from last year's production. He has already more than doubled his scoring with 69 points this season, and he's only 18. Although passed over in the draft, this year he is sure to get noticed. In leagues where the minimum age for a prospect is 18, this guy may be someone to consider. He slipped through the cracks but shouldn't any longer.
Vincent Lecavalier
Submitted by Hockeyinformer.com on December 27, 2007 - 12:50am.Lecavalier scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season in a 3-2 loss to the Capitals on Wednesday. The former first overall pick now has a league leading 55 points and after a stellar 2006/2007 campaign, could legitimately be the league's top fantasy forward. If you own him, enjoy the ride.
Nicklas Backstrom
Submitted by Sawan on December 14, 2007 - 11:31pm.Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The former fourth overall pick has put up 7 points in his last 5 games, while averaging over 21 minutes per game and will continue to thrive as long as he centers superstar Alexander Ovechkin. If for some reason Backstrom is available in your league, pick him up.
R.J. Umberger
Submitted by J Status on December 12, 2007 - 1:41am.Ummmberger? Yeah, RJ did some major scoring in the Flyers 8-2 shellacking of the Penguins Tuesday night. He had a hat trick and five, yes five, points in the game. Perhaps this former 1st round draft choice can turn into a serviceable 60-point player after all. He has had a decent season so far anyway, and this latest breakout has just gotten him onto a lot of fantasy teams. With six points, you may have thought Lupul would be the headliner. Really, his breakout was just an embellished version of the streaky play we are used to seeing from Lupul. We all know he has ability. To me, Umberger is the more interesting player; he has a little lower profile and is more widely available.
Tyler Kennedy
Submitted by J Status on November 30, 2007 - 10:46pm.Prospect watch: Here is another Penguin who is melting the ice. Though not as noticeable as Armstrong, 5 points in 11 games isn't a bad start. He started the year hot with the Baby Pens and has put up 4 points in his last 3 with the big club. Keep him on the radar!
